Hey, My name is Thijs Smeele
Hi, my name is Thijs Smeele. I was born on February 25, 2003. That makes me currently 21 years old. I enjoy being creative. Both theater and film are my passion. I also enjoy programming. That’s why I’m now doing the VFX&IM course. But now I’m getting ahead of myself.
Like many others, I was born. My birth took place in a house in Medemblik. As a small child I was already creative. I made up my own stories and told them to anyone who was willing listen. After being a toddlers I went to primary school. There is not much more to say about this other than that they quickly discovered that I am dyslexic and above average intelligent. An ironic combination, if I say so myself. After my 8 years in primary school, I went to secondary school.
Every day I had to cycle an hour to get there and another hour to go back home. The school was called Copernicus. My favorite subjects? Drama and computer science of course. After 6 years I had my VWO diploma in my pocket. In the meantime, I auditioned at the Film Academy in Amsterdam; accepted.
In high school I was more concerned with other things than classes. I was at scouting two evenings a week. Here I was a leader of a group of children. I was also very busy with theater.
MTG Sintpieter; That is the name of the theater group that I have been a member of since I was 12. In the beginning I was mainly acting, but the longer I was with the group, the more I started to create stories myself. A nice example of this is the videos we made for the arrival of Sinterklaas in Medemblik. In the first season I was just an actor. In the second season I had partly written a screenplay myself (for the first time). In the third season I wrote out the entire screenplay, I am an actor, director and editor. Nowadays, I am not just working at the productions, but also outside of them. That’s how I created the website and I still maintain it. (mtgsintpieter.nl)
And as if all that wasn’t enough, I was always trying to learn new things. So in 2018 I decided that I wanted to play guitar. I bought a guitar from a local guitar shop and taught myself how to play it. In 2015 I discovered Blender; a program in which you could create and render 3D things. I have never stopped doing this. That’s why I’m at film school now.
And here I am. In the same house I was born in. A lot has changed in my life. And there will be a lot to be added to this page as I get older. I hope I will always keep learning.
